Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

Vertical-axis wind turbines are a type of wind turbine technology where the main rotor shaft runs on the Y axis in a lateral movement to the wind flow. The advantages of vertical axis wind turbines is that they do not need to be pointed into the wind and that generators and gearboxes can be placed close to the ground.
