Is it worth installing solar panels on my roof?
January 9th, 2010
I live in sunny southern California and someone told me that installing solar panels on my roof can fully power my home on a summer day. Is this really true? How much would it cost me to do this? My home is a two story home in the suburbs. What are the pros and cons of doing this?
For many people it is not worth it because they pay a professional installing solar panels company to do the work. If you go that route, it will cost you about $50,000 to install enough solar panels to power your entire home. I know a guy who paid a professional company to install solar panels to run his pool and he would have to live to be 80 years old just to break even because the professional company charges so much.
Your other option is to do it yourself. Start off small and gradually take more and more appliances off the power grid and onto solar panels. You can build and install your own for practically nothing. Click here to read a review about a very popular solar panel book sold through this website.
